August 5th Rally

On August 5, 2005, thousands of Croatians abroad and in the homeland held rallies to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Operation Storm and to proclaim that its military commander, General Ante Gotovina, is a hero. In 1995, General Gotovina and his forces restored Croatia's territorial integrity and ended the Serbs' four-year campaign of mass murder, ethnic cleansing and brutal occupation of the country's territories. The General, former President Franjo Tudjman and the Croatian people fulfilled a 1,000-year-old dream: they forged the independent state of Croatia. However, subsequently the high hopes of the people were dashed. The nation has been oppressed by the Hague tribunal, its chief prosecutor Carla Del Ponte, and by Croatia's corrupt political class. We therefore declare that we are launching a second movement in order to fulfill the aim of creating a truly free, just and prosperous nation.
