Agreement between Zagreb and The Hague Continues Against Journalist

Jovic called to The Hague for hearing

Journalist Josip Jović received a court date to appear at The Hague on July 3rd because of revealing a protected witness even though a few days ago the prosecution withdrew the indictments against journalists Domagoj Margetić, Stjepan Šešelj and Marijan Krizic, which were accused the same as Jovic.

– I will seek to postpone the hearing. My wife broke her leg and I must take care of her – said Josip Jović for Vecernji. He maintains that the continuation of this procedure has no justification. The only logical explanation is that it is about a political agreement made between The Hague and the government in Zagreb. My colleagues, whose indictments have been dropped and which I support, do not write, and I am still critical in my writing – claims Jović.

– If the Chief Prosecutor claims that she withdrew the indictments because of judicial economy, than I do not see the logic why she has not done the same in my case – says Jović and adds that it is not late to do the same for him.

His lawyer, Vjekoslav Krsnik, says that he will demand an explanation of why the prosecutor in Jović's case does not withdraw his indictment. – The Hague prosecution can do whatever they want because there is no one who supervises the work of Carla del Ponte – claims Krsnik and adds that in history no one has had as much power as she has. – I do not know what reasons she will use to justify the charges against Jović except that there is an agreement with certain stakeholders in RH (Republic of Croatia) – says Krsnik.

HHO (Croatian Helsinki Commission) President, Žarko Puhovski, claims that the prosecutor has the discretion of when she issues and withdraws indictments. – I think she should have never issued indictments against the journalists, and the damage is partly done because indictments are withdrawn against three of the journalists and I do not see the reason why she would not drop the indictment against Josip Jović – says Puhovski.
