Del Ponte was fascinated by Milosevic: daily

Since Del Ponte was so "fascinated" by the Butcher of the Balkans, and since she knows where Mladic is hiding, than Mladic can continue to "fascinate" Del Ponte at The Hague. Also, the EU should deliver Karadzic to Del Ponte for even more "fascination."

BERLIN (Reuters) - United Nations' chief prosecutor Carla del Ponte said she admired and was fascinated by former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic's court performance during his war crimes trial, a newspaper reported on Friday.

"The way he cross-examined certain witnesses was fascinating," del Ponte was quoted as saying by daily Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung about the man branded as the "Butcher of the Balkans" for his role in the conflicts that tore apart Yugoslavia in the 1990s.

"He certainly knew how to handle people. I admired that," she added.

Milosevic stood trial at The Hague's international tribunal for 66 counts of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes in Bosnia, Croatia and Kosovo in a ten year period.

Charges against him included his role in the siege of Sarajevo, which killed more than 11,000 people and in the genocide of the 1995 Srebrenica massacre of 8,000 Muslims.

Del Ponte called Milosevic's death in March -- months before his verdict was due and after four years of trial -- a "defeat."

But she said she would concentrate on Bosnian Serb commander Ratko Mladic and Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic -- both of whom are at large. They have been indicted for the siege of Sarajevo and the Srebrenica massacre.

"We know where (Mladic) is," del Ponte told the daily. "And we also know that Belgrade can give him to us."

In May, the European Union suspended association talks because Serbia has failed to arrest Mladic, who is seen by many Serbs as a hero.
