Catholic Bishop Valentin Pozaic: Izjava Za Javnost

Catholic Bishop Valentin Pozaic Public Statement

Due to an urgent humanitarian crisis and sympathy for a man in a troubled situation, we visited Domagoj Margetic in the hospital jail where his imprisonment has continued without any charges or judgment. We are protesting against the unjust hunger strike which has already lasted 32 days.

What is most disturbing and unknown to the public about this journalist's situation is that he has been robbed of his freedom for only publicizing information which was his duty as an investigative journalist.  It is frightening that his fellow colleagues and media in Croatia are silent during this crisis.

We publicly announce there is no justified reason to keep Domagoj Margetic in jail because his imprisonment was ordered due to allegedly not accepting an ICTY order; however, it is known that Domagoj Margetic accepted that ICTY order. Moreover, it is absolutely absurd that there is no material evidence to justify any future court proceedings because the alleged witness list which Margetic publicized was already made a public document by the ICTY in their own proceedings.

In particular, we emphasize that throughout Bishop Valentin Pozaic's hospital visit and with the soul of his motto, he cited the Bible's message of "Choose Life."

He spoke to Domagoj Margetic about the value of his life which is in his hands, but, also in the hands of others who are responsible for this current sad and dangerous situation which he is facing.
