On May 8, Branimir Glavas requested the exemption of the judges Jukic and Budic from performing the judge's duty in the criminal proceedings against him at this court, saying that ''in his opinion, they are not unbiased.'' As he said at the time, the state bodies in authority will report on these circumstances after the process of making a formal decision regarding his detention appeal.
The Supreme Court council made the formal decision on Friday, May 11, to dismiss the appeals of Glavas and other accused parties in the ''Sellotape case'' because they had no grounds, that had been filed against the formal decision of the Osijek County Court which had placed the decision to extend and order detention in effect.
Osijek County Court president Ljubojevic offered an explanation for the formal decision dismissing Glavas' request for the judges' exemption. He says that the person who submitted the request had not mentioned the circumstances which had caused suspicion of bias in the aforementioned judges nor evidence on which the doubt was based.
Branimir Glavas was moved from detention in Osijek, where he was since April 17, to the prison hospital in Zagreb on May 10.
As lawyer Drazen Matijevic said, Glavas insists on a hunger strike in hospital. He started the hunger strike in detention on April 27, unhappy with the work of the Croatian judiciary and asking for the option to defend himself as a free man.
