Gordana Malaąić After yesterday's sentence to Mile Mrksic, Veselin Sljivancanin and Miroslav Radic, a part of Croatian Homeland War soldiers left for Vukovar and Vinkovci, as well as Ovcara (a farm near Vukovar in eastern Croatia. Some of them, as well as the parents of those killed and missing, assembled in Zagreb's central square at noon for a peaceful protest.

Slavica Hruskar from the Association of Independent Croatian Volunteers said that with this act veterans wanted to show the Croatian government how much this decision of the international war crimes tribunal in The Hague had shocked them.

-We will protest until all our veterans awaiting trials for alleged war crimes are released. We will not desist until that happens - Hruskar said.

She also said that the cooperation so far with the veterans' minister, Jadranka Kosor, had been intensive and good, but after this decision she questioned further cooperation.

-We believe it is sad that (parliament speaker, Vladimir) Seks yesterday could not or did not want to respond to Radic's lawyer who said, in front of the entire Croatian auditorium, that there had been no children on Ovcara. I am telling Seks and Radic's attorney that there had been children on Ovcara, including 16-year-old Igor Kacic - Hruskar said.

She also commented on the issue as to how these verdicts had judged Croatian history, adding that the decision had brought into question Croatia's viability.

-It is a shame that Norac was sentenced to 15 years in his own country and the worst criminals received such small sentences from an international court and released - Hruskar said.
